With Christmas around the corner and many households bringing out festive items, toys, gadgets and gifts — it’s better to check whether anything you own has been recalled this year. Some products may look harmless, but recalls exist because of serious safety risks.
Below we highlight a few notable recalls from 2025 and share tips on how to stay safe this holiday season.

What Is a Product Recall and Why It Matters?
A product recall is a safety action taken when a product has been found to pose a risk. For example, because it fails safety standards, has a manufacturing defect, or has caused injuries or near-misses.
‘Don’t keep using a product that’s been recalled for safety reasons. You might be happy to accept the risk, but someone else might use it without knowing the danger.’— Consumer Protection.
Recalls matter even if a product looks fine, because hidden faults can still pose risks, especially over the holidays when usage increases.
Your Rights if a Product Is Recalled
If something you’ve bought is recalled, you don’t have to just throw it away and lose your money. In most cases, you have legal rights and protections to a refund or replacement depends on whether the fault makes the recalled product unsafe to use or not.
Some Recent 2025 Recalls

The 3M™ Versaflo™ TR-802E motor/blowers manufactured between September 2024 and April 2025 were recalled because a faulty battery-contact pin assembly could overheat.

The Sylvan SLG02 WiFi Hub power adapters sold at the below retailers from March 2024 to November 2025 were recalled because its transformer does not meet New Zealand safety standards and the exposed power prongs are not partially insulated.
